Keystone’s First Annual LATAM Seminar a Big Success

MIAMI, Fla. – Keystone Industries has been expanding their dental-industry boundaries wider than ever before over the past couple years and the impact was felt amongst members of the Latin America dental community this May.

The Sheraton Miami was home to Keystone Industries first annual LATAM Dental Seminar, which was dedicated to customers from Latin American countries in Central and South America. The seminar, which was held May 20-21, provided attendees all the necessary training and knowledge to take their dental businesses to the next innovative level by using the Keystone product lines. Guest speakers and presenters touched on all the big-sellers, as well as some lesser-known technologies looking to hit the ground running in the Latin American market.

Dennis Urban, CDT, a key opinion leader in the dental and denture field, who has given lectures around the world, gave his presentation on removable technology followed by a live demonstration of denture processing with our Diamond D acrylic and the Tecnoflask, Keystone’s new microwavable denture flask.

On top of this big hit, Mike Prozzillo, VP of Sales, and Derek Keene, VP of Marketing, spoke to the attendees about mouthguards and thermoplastics Keystone offers, as well as how important Pro-Form mouthguard protection is to athletes in the United States. “The movement for oral protection is spreading into Central and South America through sports like soccer (futbol), MMA fighting, and boxing. With our biggest and best customers from these countries south of the United States attending this seminar, it was very beneficial for their market,” said Prozzillo.

Other speakers at the seminar included Sales Manager Wayne Allen, who shared knowledge and expertise of the acquired Bosworth product lines and the benefits it provides to dental practices, and Meg Shank of Apavia, a company that recently became exclusive international partners with Keystone for water filtration technology, who spoke about the impact and importance of water filtration in dentist offices and how it will be growing over time.

A happy group after the seminar!

Gelato is now a 3-Peat winner of the Top Prophy Paste Award (2013, 2014, 2015).

Gelato Prophy Paste provides smooth, pliable and splatter-free application. The 1.23% fluoride ion Gelato paste is perfect for high-luster polishing and stain removal, but it remains gentle enough on the enamel with minimal enamel loss.

The paste comes in boxes of 200 individual disposable cups for convenient use. The disposable cups also eliminate cross contamination and include a prophy ring for ease of application on the patient’s teeth. For more options, the paste comes in 6 ounce (exports only) and 12 ounce jars.

Recent study shows fluoride in drinking water cuts tooth decay in adults

Some of the strongest evidence yet for public water fluoridation has just been released the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Adelaide, Australia. The study strongly reaffirms the dental health benefits to adults, even if they did not receive fluoridated drinking water during their childhood.

Fluoride drinking water prevents tooth decay for all adults regardless of age and whether or not they consumed fluoridated water during childhood, according to the first population-level study of its kind.

Fluoride water does help prevent tooth decay in adults.

The researchers examined randomly selected Australian population survey data from 3,779 adults aged 15 and older between 2004 and 2006. They measured levels of decay and study participants reported where they lived since 1964. The residential history of the study participants was matched to the information about fluoride levels in the community water supplies. Then the researchers were able to surmise the percentage of each participant’s lifetime drinking public fluoridated water.

The research showed that adults who spent more than 75 percent of their life living in fluoridated communities had significantly less tooth decay (nearly 30 percent less) when compared to adults who had live less than 25 percent of their lifetime in fluoridated communities.

How you can prevent bad breath

url-1No one likes bad breath, but does everyone do the things necessary to prevent it? More than 40 million Americans suffer from bad breath, or halitosis, according to the American Dental Hygienists’ Association. Bad breath can make you self-conscious, affect your social life and leave you embarrassed. However, there are easy and effective ways to freshen your breath.

Brush and floss more often

Plaque is one of the major causes to bad breath. The sticky build up on the teeth fosters stinky bacteria. Meanwhile, food left between the teeth can add to the problem. Everyone should brush at least twice and day and floss daily. If you’re worried about bad breath, brush and floss more often but don’t overdo it. Brushing too forcefully can even erode enamel, making teeth even more susceptible to decay.

Avoid foods that make your breath smell

Foods certainly affect the way your breath smells. Onion and garlic are the main offenders and even after brushing your teeth, it doesn’t help. These foods, in particular, travel through your blood stream and travel to your lungs, where you breathe it out. Really, the only way to cure this is avoid these foods.

Scrape your tongue

9541130

Use a Keystone Industries tongue scraper to help eliminate bad breath.

You’re tongue naturally coats itself with possible foul-smelling bacterial. So you need to eliminate them by either gently brushing your tongue with a toothbrush or use a tongue scraper. Dental hygienists say that tongue scrapers are essential in a proper oral heath care routine. The nice thing about the scraper is it applies even pressure on the surface of the tongue area so bacteria, food debris and dead cells can be removed.

No more smoking

We all know the dangers of smoking and now you can add bad breath to the long list of negative effects. Smoking damages tissue in your mouth and stains teeth. Smoking cessation is key to not only oral health but also overall health.

Use mouth rinse

Not only does mouth rinse freshen your breath it also reduces plaque-causing bacteria. Swish your mouth with the rinse, or if in a bind use plain water. This will freshen your breath by eliminating food particles.

Keep gums healthy

Periodontal disease, or gum disease is a very common cause of bad breath. Bacteria can accumulate in pockets at the base of the teeth and create bad odors. If you have gum disease, a dentist may recommend a periodontist, who specializes in treating gum disease.

Skip the post-dinner mint

Sugar mint candies may appear to freshen breath, but instead they promote growth of bacterial in your mouth and add onto bad breath problems. Instead, chew sugarless gum. The gum stimulates saliva, which is the mouth’s natural defense against plaque acids, which cause decay and bad breath.

Watch out for dry mouth

As stated above, saliva is a key component to fending off bad bacterial. The lack of salvia will increase tooth decay and cause bad breath. If your mouth is dry, try drinking water or chewing sugarless gum or hard candy. Use a humidifier at night during the winter months. If your mouth is still dry talk to your dentist or doctor. Oftentimes, dry mouth is a side effect of certain medications.

Consult your doctor

If bad breath persists despite your best efforts, it’s probably a good time to see your doctor. Bad breath can be a sign of medical conditions such as allergies, sinuses infections, lung infection, diabetes or even liver or kidney diseases.
