The Reasons Behind Getting Dental X-Rays

Getting x-rays at the dentist may not be your favorite thing, but this insightful infographic from DentAbout.com helps outline the importance behind them. Although both intraoral and extraoral x-rays show the teeth, their focuses differ from the general health of your teeth (intraoral) to your jaw and skull (extraoral). Nonetheless, these x-rays allow for the dentist to do their job and check for decay, cavities, and disease that aren’t visible to the naked eye.

The All-Star Lineup Every Dental Professional Needs For Mouthguard Season

The time has come for athletes far and wide across the country, as the season is finally upon us – outdoor sports season. This is also meaningful to those off the courts and fields, such as dental professionals – it’s mouthguard season!

We here at Keystone Industries take pride in offering high-quality, custom-fit mouthguards that lead the market in saving teeth and money all at once. Since 1967, Pro-Form has been a role player in the oral protection community, giving teams and athletes around the world affordable equipment and materials.

Our Pro-Form materials are used from the highest levels of professional sports all the way through youth leagues, and offer the highest level of protection, retention, and comfort possible. On top of all this, athletes are also able to speak and breathe easier than most types of mouthguards on the market.

Take a look at some of these alarming statistical findings, just to show how important this level of protection is for athletes in any and all sports:

  • 5 MILLION teeth are lost every year in sports activities (Source)
  • 34% of sports injuries involve the face (Source)
  • Dental injuries can cost more than 20X the preventative costs of a custom-fit Pro-Form mouthguard (Source)
  • 200,000 injuries prevented annually by mouthguards (Source)

Now that you know how important this piece of protection is, let’s get into how the process is made simple for you. Below are two embedded videos from our YouTube channel that demonstrate the vacuum forming process and how to customize the mouthguard. Both processes can be done in either a dentist office or a dental lab.

In this first video, see how our vacuum former is able to make a custom-fit mouthguard out of one of our laminates:

In the second video, watch the tutorial of our centri-fuse kit, which easily puts custom logos, numbers, and letters onto an already-formed mouthguard:

Role players like these are vital in the process. But now you may be asking about what star players we have readily available to actually protect the teeth.

There are 200+ color and style laminates available in square or round. Your custom experience is endless, but can start with these popular choices in styles:

Don’t forget of the most innovative way to select a mouthguard in the dental industry! If you have an iOS device with a camera, be sure to download the Keystone Industries app to try on a virtual mouthguard for yourself!

Choose between any color and style we offer, and see how it looks in your mouth inside the app. This is an excellent selling point for a patient in the chair of your office, and can increase sales with no effort at all. You won’t see an app like this in any app store!

There’s a lot more from where these come from, so checking out the Pro-Form section of our website would be best to find exactly what you’re looking for in thickness, style, color, shape, etc. and even clear and black straps, which are required in most youth sports leagues. There are many videos on our YouTube channel and in our Learning Center, as well as our most up-to-date pamphlets and brochures in our Catalog section available for your download.

Successful Strategies For a Win-Win Relationship With Your Dental Lab [INFOGRAPHIC]

As a leader in the dental manufacturing industry, we here at Keystone aim to take that leader position and share information to those throughout the industry, in hopes of providing insight on how to better their work, practice, or reputation. This post can surely benefit doctors working on building a relationship with a dental lab!

Dr. Ken Newhouse explains in a recent article and infographic (see below) how success in dental practices is measured by their relationships with clients, employees, partners, and most importantly – the dental lab.

“Solid relationships with patients and vendors, especially with your dental lab, can carry you through challenging times and tight deadlines and give you an edge over your competitors,” Newhouse explains in the article on DentistryIQ.com. “I think one of the biggest mistakes dentists make is to treat their dental lab as a disposable resource that can be replaced if the lab owner and employees don’t “kiss the ring on bended knee.” Operating with the attitude that the world revolves around you and your practice is a long-term prescription for failure.”

Click the infographic below to enlarge it and read all of its contents. To ensure your dental lab is producing some of the best work possible to suit your needs, check out our dental lab products store on our website and make sure they’re using some of the best products in the industry!

Keystone Industries Relocates Headquarters to Gibbstown, NJ

GIBBSTOWN, N.J. – Keystone Industries, a leader in manufacturing dental and pharmaceutical products, has moved their headquarters from Cherry Hill to Gibbstown, New Jersey. Although this is just an 18-mile move south, the difference in size gives Keystone a distinct advantage with their production process.

In Gibbstown, Keystone is now conducting business out of a 250,000-square foot manufacturing facility with state-of-the-art accommodations throughout. The move allows for expansion of manufacturing products for the dental industry. It does not, however, effect the warehouse operations, manufacturing of machinery or extrusion and injection molding production in Myerstown, Pennsylvania.

Keystone Industries - Gibbstown

If you visit the new Keystone Industries facility in Gibbstown, N.J., you’ll come through this beautiful lobby.

One of the biggest advancements to be seen from Keystone’s move to Gibbstown is the transformation of their private branding program. Inside of the new, larger facility with a face-lifted program, products can be manufactured with unprecedented quality and efficiency, allowing for timely delivery at competitive pricing.

Take a look at photos from Spring 2015 at the Gibbstown facility!

Keystone Industries, a privately held company founded in 1908, has maintained a strong reputation for producing innovative, high-tech dental products in both the operatory and laboratory realms. Keystone Employees Donate to Help Chase a Cure

Not everything on this blog has to be about dentists and teeth. This post is a feel-good story about one of our very own, which left many with beautiful smiles.

In October of 2013, Chase Kemberling was diagnosed with Lymphoma and was treated at one of the best Children’s Hospitals in the country at Penn State Hershey. A long stay in a hospital through the holidays can be extremely difficult for anyone, let alone a child. Luckily for Chase, son of Keystone Industries employee Emily Kemberling, loads of generous and thoughtful people donated gifts to the hospital for the children. This brought and exuberant amount of joy to Chase, fellow patients, and everyone surrounding them.

Chase’s stay at the hospital turned out to pay-off. As of January 2014, Chase was in remission of his cancer. With such excellent news, of course Chase and his family and friends were overwhelmed with amounts of happiness. But, he made sure he would return the favor of the holiday joy he received.

Fast-forward to holiday season 2014. Chase and his brother Travis began ‘CHASE-ing A Cure’, and collected gifts for their first annual holiday toy drive. Among the numbers of good people to donate to this cause were employees at Keystone’s Gibbstown, NJ facility.

Above, see some of the pictures that captured the moments of the toys being received and given out to children at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central PA. The Lebanon Daily News covered the event, and posted a photo gallery online for your viewing pleasure. The local CBS21 covered it for TV as well.

We hope everyone has a Happy Holiday and wonderful New Year!

Which Halloween candies should you eat and avoid?

Although you may be excited about Halloween at the end of the week, just remember: it’s a dentist’s least favorite holiday.

Before you dive into your child’s trick-or-treat bag or crack open those candy bars you were given at work, take into mind that too many of these candies are no where near as good as others are, and you might be better off sticking to certain kinds. We know, we sound like your mother warning about cavities and sweets, but hopefully this list outlines what to eat-up on Halloween and what to try and avoid:

product_taffy_07Worst: Any type of sticky or gooey candy, such as: caramel, taffy, and nuts. It doesn’t take a genius to figure this one out. These types of candies will stick all over your mouth, get into those hard-to-reach places, and stay there. The longer they stay there, the more problems you’ll encounter, such as bacterias and cavities. Just don’t do it.

GobstopperNot great, but not too bad: Hard candies that are just daring you to break your teeth on. These can range from jawbreakers to lollipops, or just anything that is asking to chip or cut your teeth and gums. They also have a tendency to become sticky, and thus remaining in your mouth longer to attract unwanted bacteria and acids.

Orbit_Sugarfree_Gum_WintermintBest: Sugar-free gum. The American Dental Hygiene Association has been running the National Dental Hygiene Month throughout October with Wm. Jr. Wrigley Company, promoting the chewing of Orbit’s sugar-free line over anything. It’s a solid call not only because there is no stickiness associated with it, but also because the natural sugar it is sweetened with, xylitol, does not allow bacteria to be formed on it. Same great gum, less damaging to your teeth.

We hope you enjoy the Halloween holiday this weekend! If you’re doing anything dental related, make sure to post on our Facebook page or tweet at us!
